The Invisalign Process

The Invisalign system is made of clear acrylic aligners that fit over your teeth and are designed to straighten your smile. They’re removable, making it easier to eat, drink, brush and floss.

Invisalign is much more comfortable than traditional metal bracket braces and can give you stunning results.

  • We’ll take photos and X-rays to create a 3D image of your mouth.
  • We make your first set of custom-fitted aligners from these images.
  • On average, clear aligner orthodontic treatment plans can last 12 to 18 months depending on your case complexity, and you will typically use 18–30 sets during your treatment.
  • You wear the trays for about 22 hours a day but can remove them for brushing your teeth and eating.
  • Based on your individual needs, you’ll wear several sets of trays throughout your orthodontic treatment.

You’ll start to notice a change in just a few months!

A Modern Approach

Invisalign takes a modern approach to straightening teeth. It uses a custom-made series of aligners created for you and only you.

These aligner trays are made of smooth, comfortable and virtually invisible plastic that you wear over your teeth. Wearing the aligners will gently move your teeth into place little by little, based on the exact movements your orthodontist plans for you.

  • No metal brackets to attach
  • No wires to tighten
  • Pop in a new set of aligners about every two weeks, until your treatment is complete.

You’ll get a great smile without a treatment that gets in the way of your daily life.

The best part about the whole process is that most people won’t even know you’re straightening your teeth. This nearly-invisible option to straighten your teeth is truly changing the way people see orthodontic treatment.

Differences between Braces and Invisalign

Braces

  • Effective for complex cases: Braces can handle more severe or complicated dental issues, such as severe misalignment, which might be beyond the scope of Invisalign. Braces are used to treat problems such as overbites, underbites, and misaligned jaws. They can also be used to correct overcrowding, uneven spacing, and open bites. Rubber bands and other appliances or tools work in conjunction with metal braces to help with realignment and shaping.
  • Regular office visits: You’ll need to return for visits every four to eight weeks so your orthodontist can adjust the braces and make sure your teeth are aligning.
  • Permanent attachment: Since they are not removable, there’s no need to worry about discipline in wearing time, ensuring continuous treatment.
  • Oral hygiene challenges: Cleaning teeth can be more challenging with braces, increasing the risk of plaque buildup and potential for gum disease if not managed properly. Make sure to brush, floss, and rinse as usual. Flossing will require braces-specific instructions.
  • Discomfort: Brackets and wires can cause irritation to the mouth’s interior, especially after adjustments.
  • Dietary restrictions: Hard, sticky, or chewy foods can damage braces, limiting dietary choices during treatment.
  • Cost-effectiveness: Metal braces are often more cost-effective compared to other types of orthodontic treatment.
  • Look customization: Kids and teens can choose different colored brackets and wires to celebrate holidays or express themselves. Clear or ceramic braces have clear brackets, so they are less noticeable and have cosmetic appeal for adults.

Invisalign

  • Aesthetic and discreet: Clear aligners are virtually invisible, making them a more aesthetically pleasing option compared to traditional braces.
  • Fewer office visits: Each set of clear aligners is sent directly to your address. So, patients only need to visit the office every 10 weeks as opposed to 4 weeks for traditional braces. Therefore, you can save time, money, and miss less work or school.
  • Improved oral hygiene: Removable, allowing for better access to clean teeth and gums thoroughly.
  • No food restrictions: Since you remove clear aligners while you eat there is no need to worry about sticky or hard food. Simply remove your Invisalign® clear aligners when you’re ready to eat a meal and put them back in once you’re finished.
  • Comfort: No wires or brackets that could irritate the mouth, plus each set of aligners is custom-made to fit snugly over the teeth.
  • Requires self-discipline: Patients must be diligent about wearing the aligners for the required 20-22 hours per day, which can be challenging, especially for younger patients.
  • Possible for misplacement or loss: Being removable means aligners can easily be lost or forgotten, potentially delaying treatment progress.
  • Initial speech adjustment: Some people might experience a temporary lisp or slight alteration in speech until they get used to the aligners.
